1. The Artist [Blu-Ray] (2011)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Mel Brooks made a silent movie 35 years ago, and he did it better than The Artist. While not devoid of charms, the film relies too much on its basic gimmick and doesn’t bother to develop in other ways sufficient to turn it into anything other than a one-note effort. The Blu-ray provides good picture and audio along with a fluffy set of supplements. Thoug

2. The Shadow [Blu-Ray] (1994)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While not devoid of charms, The Shadow lacks much excitement and intrigue. It delivers periodic bouts of entertainment but not enough to keep us occupied across its full running time. The Blu-ray provides generally positive picture and audio along with an informative documentary. I feel pleased with this release but the movie itself leaves me a bit cold.

3. Saving Lincoln [Blu-Ray] (2013)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While the notion of actors in front of Civil War photo backdrops sounds vaguely intriguing, the result flops. Saving Lincoln suffers from bad visual effects, stiff acting and other problems, all of which add up to an unsatisfying product. The Blu-ray offers acceptable but lackluster picture and audio along with a few supplements highlighted by a mostly i

4. Carlito's Way: Ultimate Edition (1993)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: An unusual take on the gangster genre, Carlito’s Way mostly succeeds. It occasionally goes off-track with some weak plot threads, but it usually keeps us interested and involved. Starring Al Pacino, Sean Penn. Universal, $22.98, 9/13/2005.

5. Big Top Pee-Wee (1988)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: A commentary or some other form of supplement would have been nice, as it might have helped us get to the heart of this catastrophe. Unfortunately, we’ll have to speculate on what the creators of Big Top Pee-wee had in mind, for I can’t figure out who thought this disaster would be funny or entertaining. Starring Pee-Wee Herman. Paramount, $14.99, 7/6/20

7. Adventures In Babysitting: 25th Anniversary Edition [Blu-Ray] (1987)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I've had easier recommendations to make, but not many. Adventures In Babysitting offers a dull, witless film that might have some nostalgia value but that’s about it. The Blu-ray provides very good picture and perfectly competent audio but lacks supplements. This is a pretty awful movie, but at least the Blu-ray makes it look and sound better than ever.
